Life is a journey with all its meanders, fast frivolous parties, slow mundane working, shallow fruitless relationships, and deep meaning insights. It’s like the journey of a river and like a river its meaning and purpose change.
When we’re young we rush headlong, fast, swift, and assured of our life and excited by all it will bring. As we reach the slower levels, the lower hills we ease up a bit. We have roles, responsibilities – sometimes just for ourselves, sometimes for all the other riverlets that come along and join us. Our role is to nurture and protect, teach, and build them in their belief of themselves and the world around them. Then as they depart to start rivers of their own, we’re left to find new meaning and purpose. We’re slower than before – not ponderous and heavy – but wiser and yes wider often. Our journey is still going on. There are still new things to discover and places to go but not such rushing and racing.
We know our final destination, we’re just not in a hurry to get there.
